For video game enthusiasts traveling to Japan, visiting an official Nintendo store is often at the very top of the bucket list. While Tokyo has long held the crown with its Shibuya flagship, the Kansai region is now home to an absolute powerhouse of a retail experience: Nintendo OSAKA (ニンテンドーオオサカ). As Nintendo’s second official directly-run store in Japan, this massive location in the heart of Osaka’s Umeda district offers an unforgettable immersion into the worlds of Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and Pikmin.

However, if you are planning a trip to Osaka in 2026 or beyond, you need to be aware of a massive, critical update regarding the store's building name. Many older travel guides, outdated blog posts, and even unrefreshed digital maps will send you searching for a building that no longer houses the 13th floor under its old name.

This exhaustive, extremely deep guide is designed specifically for inbound tourists. We will break down exactly how to find the store, how to navigate the infamous "Umeda Dungeon," how to successfully secure entry on busy days, and how to maximize your time on what is arguably the best single floor for gaming fans in all of western Japan.

⚠️ URGENT 2026 UPDATE: The "Daimaru Umeda" Myth and the Rebirth of LUCUA SOUTH

Before we dive into the merchandise and the magic of the store, we must address a crucial geographical and administrative change that has confused countless international tourists since April 2026.

If you have been doing research for your trip to Osaka, you have almost certainly read that Nintendo OSAKA is located on the "13th floor of the Daimaru Umeda department store." This is now outdated information.

Here are the verified, exact facts of the situation: Starting in the spring of 2026, the massive commercial building connected to JR Osaka Station underwent a significant corporate reorganization. The Daimaru department store, which previously occupied the vast majority of the building's floors, downsized its footprint. As of April 2026, the Daimaru brand only operates from Basement 2F up to the 9th floor.

The upper floors of the building—including the critical 13th floor where Nintendo OSAKA is located—were completely rebranded and relaunched as a separate shopping facility called LUCUA SOUTH (ルクア サウス).

To facilitate this massive rebranding and logistical shift, Nintendo's official store account officially announced that Nintendo OSAKA closed its doors briefly from March 31, 2026, to April 4, 2026. On April 5, 2026, the store triumphantly reopened on the exact same physical 13th floor, but now operating under the LUCUA SOUTH address.

What This Means for Tourists

  • The Physical Location Has Not Moved: You are still going to the exact same building attached to JR Osaka Station. You are still taking the elevators or escalators to the exact same 13th floor.
  • The Address: The official current address is 〒530-8202 Osaka, Kita-ku, Umeda 3-1-1, LUCUA SOUTH 13F.
  • Ignore Old Signage Advice: If you are reading a 2024 or 2025 guide that tells you to "follow the signs for Daimaru and go to the 13th floor," you might get confused when current floor guides show Daimaru ending on the 9th floor. Instead, look for signs directing you to LUCUA SOUTH.
  • Digital Maps Delay: Be aware that some third-party map applications or older embedded maps on websites may still tag the 13th floor as "Daimaru." If you see this, know that it is describing the identical physical space under its old moniker.

By keeping this April 2026 update in mind, you will save yourself a tremendous amount of stress when navigating the bustling corridors of Osaka Station.

Essential Store Information & Official Facts

Whether you are a casual fan looking for a cute souvenir or a hardcore collector hunting for exclusive apparel, Nintendo OSAKA is a beautifully curated retail space. Here are the core, verified facts about the location to help you plan your itinerary.

  • Official Name: Nintendo OSAKA (ニンテンドーオオサカ)
  • Opening Date: November 11, 2022 (A special lottery-winners-only "pre-open" event was held on November 10, 2022). It debuted as the very first official Nintendo store in the Kansai region, serving as the sister store to Nintendo TOKYO.
  • Current Address: 〒530-8202 Osaka, Kita-ku, Umeda 3-1-1, LUCUA SOUTH 13F (大阪府大阪市北区梅田3-1-1 ルクア サウス13F).
  • Operating Hours: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (10:00 - 20:00). Hours are subject to change during major national holidays like New Year's, so always check ahead.
  • Entry System: Free to enter, but governed by a strict numbered ticket (整理券, seiriken) system on busy days, weekends, and holidays. (More on this below).

*(Note: As the transition to the LUCUA SOUTH branding permeates digital platforms in 2026, map pins will reflect the new building name at this exact coordinate block.)*

How to Get There: Navigating the "Umeda Dungeon"

The area surrounding Osaka Station is affectionately (and sometimes frustratingly) referred to by locals as the "Umeda Dungeon." It is a massive, multi-level, interconnected labyrinth of train lines, subways, department stores, and underground shopping malls. Without clear directions, it is incredibly easy to get turned around.

The Most Reliable Route: JR Osaka Station Central Exit

The absolute easiest and officially verified way to reach Nintendo OSAKA is via the Central Exit (中央口, Chuo-guchi) of JR Osaka Station.

  1. Arrive at JR Osaka Station: Whether you are coming from Kyoto, Shin-Osaka (via the Shinkansen), or the Osaka Loop Line, disembark at JR Osaka Station.
  2. Head to the Central Exit: Follow the yellow overhead signs pointing down to the ground floor concourse toward the "Central Gate" or "Central Exit."
  3. Walk South: Once you pass through the ticket gates of the Central Exit, you are in a large pedestrian corridor. Turn to your Right (if you are facing out from the gates) towards the South side of the station complex.
  4. Find the LUCUA SOUTH Building: The entrance to the building (formerly Daimaru) is located directly adjacent to this central corridor on the south side. The walk from the ticket gate to the building entrance takes approximately 5 minutes on foot.
  5. Take the Elevator to the 13th Floor: Once inside the ground floor of LUCUA SOUTH, locate the main elevator banks and take them straight up to the 13th floor.

Other Train Lines

While we highly recommend using JR Osaka Station as your primary navigation point, the store is also accessible from several other stations in the immediate vicinity:

  • Hankyu Umeda Station: A massive terminal just to the northeast of JR Osaka Station. Navigating from here involves crossing over via pedestrian walkways or navigating the underground mall to reach the South Gate area of JR Osaka.
  • Hanshin Umeda Station: Located just south of JR Osaka Station, largely underground.
  • Osaka Metro (Subway) Stations: Umeda Station (Midosuji Line), Higashi-Umeda Station (Tanimachi Line), and Nishi-Umeda Station (Yotsubashi Line) are all connected via underground walkways.

Mastering the Seiriken (Numbered Ticket) Entry System

Nintendo OSAKA is incredibly popular. While you might be able to simply walk into the store on a quiet Tuesday morning during the off-season, you must prepare for strict crowd control measures if you are visiting on a weekend, a Japanese national holiday, during school vacation periods, or immediately following the release of a highly anticipated new game or merchandise line.

To prevent dangerous overcrowding on the 13th floor of LUCUA SOUTH, Nintendo utilizes a physical numbered ticket system, known in Japanese as 整理券 (Seiriken). Here is exactly how it works and how you can ensure you get inside.

1. Morning Distribution (Before the Store Opens)

If store management anticipates a busy day, they will begin distributing entry tickets before the store's 10:00 AM opening time.

  • Where: The morning distribution takes place on the 1st floor (ground level) outside the building at a location known as the South Gate Plaza (南ゲート広場, Minami Gate Hiroba). This is a specific open-air plaza area on the south side of the JR Osaka Station complex.
  • How it works: Store staff will form a line and hand out physical paper tickets. These tickets will have a specific time slot printed on them (e.g., "11:30 AM - 12:00 PM").
  • Rules: You must be physically present to receive a ticket. You usually cannot grab a handful of tickets for friends who are still sleeping at the hotel; each person entering needs a ticket.

Location Map: South Gate Plaza (Morning Ticket Queue)

2. Daytime Distribution (After the Store Opens)

Once the store opens at 10:00 AM, the morning distribution at the South Gate Plaza ceases.

  • Where: If there are still tickets available for later in the day, the distribution point moves directly up to the 13th-floor storefront in LUCUA SOUTH.
  • How it works: You take the elevator up to the 13th floor, find the designated Nintendo staff member holding the sign indicating the end of the ticket line, and receive your time slot. If your time slot is hours away, you are free to leave the building, enjoy lunch, or explore Umeda, returning only when your time window begins.

3. The Most Important Tool: Checking Official Social Media

Because crowd levels are entirely dependent on the day, the weather, and current product releases, the ticket distribution status changes dynamically.

As an international tourist, your absolute best tool is the official Nintendo store account on X (formerly Twitter). The handle is @N_Officialstore.

Before you leave your hotel in the morning, check this account. The staff posts real-time updates (usually in Japanese, but easily translatable using the app's built-in tools) stating:

  • Whether tickets are being distributed that day.
  • Where they are currently distributing them (South Gate Plaza vs. 13th floor).
  • If tickets have completely sold out for the entire day.

Do not rely on old blog posts to tell you if a ticket is required on the specific day of your visit. Always check the official @N_Officialstore account.

Inside Nintendo OSAKA: A Gamer's Paradise

Stepping onto the 13th floor of LUCUA SOUTH and walking into Nintendo OSAKA is a sensory delight. The store is meticulously designed to celebrate the rich history and vibrant future of Nintendo's intellectual properties. The bright, clean, modern aesthetic is punctuated by splashes of iconic character colors.

The Historic Opening Day Decor

When the store first threw open its doors to lottery winners on November 10, 2022 (and to the general public on November 11), it made headlines across Japanese gaming media. The Kansai region finally had its own official hub.

One of the most notable elements confirmed from the opening-day press coverage was the presence of massive, highly detailed statues of legendary Nintendo characters greeting visitors near the entrance. Towering figures of Mario, frozen in a mid-jump pose, and Link, looking resolute, served as the ultimate photo spots for fans who had waited hours to get inside.

A quick note for 2026 travelers: While these large character installations were the hallmark of the 2022 grand opening, Nintendo official stores are known for refreshing their layouts and seasonal displays over time. The exact statues or their placements may rotate to celebrate newer game releases or seasonal campaigns. However, you can always expect grand, photo-worthy character displays upon entry.

What You Can Actually Buy

While we cannot list specific SKUs or exact yen prices—as merchandise rotates rapidly and limited-edition items sell out quickly—you can expect to find several core categories of official products that remain permanent staples of the store:

  1. Hardware & Software: Naturally, the store sells current Nintendo consoles, controllers, accessories, and a massive wall of physical game cartridges.
  2. Apparel & Accessories: This is often the most sought-after category for inbound tourists. Look for high-quality t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and bags featuring subtle (and not-so-subtle) nods to beloved franchises. Many designs are exclusive to the official stores and cannot be found at general electronics retailers.
  3. Home Goods & Lifestyle: From Super Mario-themed kitchen plates and Animal Crossing coffee mugs to Pikmin planters and Splatoon bath towels, the lifestyle section allows fans to integrate Nintendo magic into their daily routines.
  4. Plushies & Toys: Entire walls are dedicated to incredibly soft, officially licensed plushies of almost every character imaginable, from obscure Pokémon to various forms of Kirby.
  5. Stationery & Souvenirs: If you need to bring back gifts for friends back home without breaking the bank, the stationery aisles are perfect. You will find clear files, pens, notebooks, and small blind-box items.

Speaking of small collectibles, many travelers love hunting for exclusive capsule toys. For more tips on finding character goods across Japan, check out our Animal Crossing Gachapon Guide for Nintendo Tokyo & Osaka.

The Ultimate 13th Floor Combo: Capcom Store & Cafe Umeda

Here is a genuinely useful, practical tip that makes the 13th floor of LUCUA SOUTH an absolute must-visit, even if you are short on time. Nintendo OSAKA is not the only giant of the gaming industry residing on this floor.

Located at the exact same address (〒530-8202 Osaka, Kita-ku, Umeda 3-1-1, LUCUA SOUTH 13F) is the Capcom Store & Cafe Umeda.

Yes, you read that correctly. With a single elevator ride up to the 13th floor, you have immediate access to two of the most important official game-publisher flagship stores in Japan. Confirmed via official Capcom sources, this store offers a dual experience:

  • Capcom Store: A retail space dedicated to Capcom's legendary roster of franchises. Expect to find premium merchandise, exclusive apparel, and collectibles for Resident Evil (Biohazard), Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney.
  • Capcom Cafe: An attached themed cafe that runs rotating, limited-time collaborative menus based on specific Capcom games. The cafe often requires advance reservations online, though they sometimes accept walk-ins if there are cancellations.

The proximity of these two stores creates a vibrant, energetic atmosphere on the 13th floor. You can pick up a Zelda t-shirt, walk fifty feet down the hall, and buy a Monster Hunter plushie. It is a highly efficient use of an inbound tourist's limited itinerary time.

When massive department stores undergo rebrandings—like the Daimaru to LUCUA SOUTH transition—information on the internet becomes fragmented and contradictory. We need to explicitly clear up two major misconceptions that tourists frequently have when visiting this specific building.

The Pokémon Center Osaka Caveat

Many older blogs will boldly claim that Pokémon Center Osaka is located on the exact same floor as Nintendo OSAKA. Do not blindly trust this information in 2026.

While the Pokémon Center has historically operated within the Daimaru Umeda building, the April 2026 reorganization (which shrunk Daimaru down to floors B2F-9F and converted the upper floors to LUCUA SOUTH) has caused significant shifts in retail tenancy. Because retail locations for third-party brands within department stores can move floors during massive renovations, we strongly advise you to check the official Pokémon Center website for their exact current floor and building designation on the day of your visit. If a hotel concierge tells you "it's on the same floor as Nintendo," politely verify this yourself, as they may be relying on pre-2026 knowledge.

Good News: The One Piece Mugiwara Store Osaka IS Here Too

(Correction, 2026-10-08: an earlier version of this guide repeated an outdated claim that the Mugiwara Store was not located in this building at all. That was wrong — Osaka actually has two official Mugiwara Store locations, and one of them is right here.)

The Umeda branch of the One Piece Mugiwara Store was one of the handful of tenants — alongside Nintendo OSAKA and Pokémon Center Osaka DX — that carried over from the old Daimaru Umeda building straight into the new LUCUA SOUTH complex when it opened on April 5, 2026. In other words, you genuinely can go from Nintendo OSAKA straight to Luffy and the Straw Hat crew without leaving the 13th floor.

There is also a completely separate Abeno branch inside Abeno Q's Mall (あべのキューズモール), in the Tennoji/Abeno district in the southern part of Osaka city — a different neighborhood, roughly 20-30 minutes away by train. If you're deciding which one to visit: the Umeda/LUCUA SOUTH branch is the obvious choice if you're already there for Nintendo, Pokémon, or Capcom; the Abeno branch is only worth a dedicated trip if you're already in that part of the city for something else. Exact layout, exclusive merchandise, and hours can differ between the two branches, so check the official Mugiwara Store site (mugiwara-store.com) for the specific branch's current details before you go.

For reference, here is the location of the separate Abeno branch:

Location Map: One Piece Mugiwara Store (Abeno Q's Mall branch)

*Access: A short walk from JR Tennoji Station or Osaka Metro Tennoji Station.*

Nintendo OSAKA vs. Nintendo TOKYO: Which is Better?

If your Japan itinerary includes both Tokyo and Osaka, you might be wondering if it is necessary to visit both official stores. Nintendo TOKYO, located inside Shibuya PARCO, was the first official directly-run store in Japan. Nintendo OSAKA is the second.

Similarities: Both stores carry the core, essential lineup of official merchandise. If you are looking for standard franchise apparel, basic plushies, or a Nintendo Switch console, you will easily find them at both locations. Both stores also utilize the identical seiriken (numbered ticket) system on busy days to manage crowds.

Differences and Regional Charm: While the core merchandise is the same, Nintendo has been known to release location-exclusive items featuring the specific store's logo. If you are a completionist collector, securing a t-shirt or pin that specifically says "Nintendo OSAKA" is a great badge of honor.

Furthermore, because Nintendo's historic corporate headquarters is famously located in Kyoto (just a short train ride from Osaka), the Kansai region holds a deep, intrinsic cultural connection to the company. For many fans, visiting Nintendo OSAKA feels like visiting the brand on its home turf in western Japan.

As Osaka continues to grow as a massive hub for pop culture tourism (evidenced by major upcoming events, which you can read about in our AnimeJapan 2027 Moves to Osaka: Dates, Venue & Complete Visitor Guide), the Nintendo OSAKA store stands as a vital pillar of the city's otaku infrastructure.

Practical Tourist Advice for Your Visit

To ensure your visit to LUCUA SOUTH goes as smoothly as possible, here are some deeply practical tips tailored specifically for international visitors in 2026.

1. Tax-Free Shopping Expectations

When traveling to Japan, many tourists expect to easily claim the 10% consumption tax back on their purchases. While many large department stores and electronics retailers offer tax-free shopping counters, policies at specialty character stores can vary and change frequently. Always bring your physical passport (not a photocopy) with you to the store. Ask the staff at the register before you pay: "Tax-free OK?" or look for the official tax-free logo at the checkout counter. Be prepared that certain highly limited collectible items may not qualify, or there may be a daily purchase limit per passport to prevent scalping.

2. Payment Methods

Nintendo OSAKA accepts major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, JCB, AMEX) and cash (Japanese Yen). Given the high volume of international tourists, contactless payment via credit card or smartphone is generally well supported. However, if you plan on shopping extensively across Umeda later in the day at smaller vendors, having cash on hand is wise. For a deep dive into the current financial landscape for tourists, read our guide on Cash vs Card in Japan 2026: How Much Cash Do You Need?.

3. Luggage Storage

Do not attempt to bring large rolling suitcases onto the 13th floor, especially if you have a timed entry ticket for a busy afternoon. The aisles, while reasonably wide, will become congested with shoppers. JR Osaka Station has hundreds of coin lockers scattered throughout its concourses. Utilize these lockers on the ground floor or basement levels before heading up to LUCUA SOUTH.

4. Protecting Your Merchandise

If you are purchasing large box items (like special edition consoles or large statues) or fragile items (like ceramic mugs), ask the staff for protective packaging. However, remember that you have to fly these items home. Bring an empty duffel bag or leave extra space in your checked luggage specifically for your Nintendo haul.

Making a Day of It: Surrounding Attractions in Umeda

Since Nintendo OSAKA is centrally located in one of the most vibrant commercial districts in Japan, you can easily build an entire day's itinerary around your visit. Here are a few recommended spots nearby to check out before or after your designated ticket time.

Umeda Sky Building (Kuchu Teien Observatory)

If you secure a morning ticket for Nintendo OSAKA and find yourself with a few hours to kill, take a 10-15 minute walk northwest from JR Osaka Station to the iconic Umeda Sky Building. Its "Floating Garden Observatory" offers breathtaking, 360-degree open-air views of the sprawling Osaka metropolis. It is a fantastic architectural contrast to the retail heavy environment of LUCUA SOUTH.

Location Map: Umeda Sky Building

Late Night Umeda Shopping

If your Nintendo entry ticket isn't until the evening (the store closes at 20:00), you might find yourself wandering Umeda after dark. If you still have energy and yen to burn, Umeda hosts massive discount retailers that stay open late. For tips on navigating these chaotic but wonderful stores, read our Don Quijote Shopping Guide | Late Night Tax-Free Discounts.

Dining in the Dungeon

The restaurant floors in the immediate vicinity of JR Osaka Station are world-class, offering everything from quick takoyaki stands to high-end kaiseki dining. However, prices inside major station complexes can be higher than street-level local joints. If you are trying to budget your meals to save more money for gaming merchandise, check out our breakdown in How Much Does Food Cost in Japan? 2026 Konbini vs Restaurant.

Conclusion: The Kansai Gaming Mecca Awaits

Nintendo OSAKA is more than just a retail store; it is a meticulously crafted celebration of the characters and stories that have defined global gaming culture for decades. From the historic November 2022 opening day when the massive Mario and Link statues first greeted Kansai fans, to its modern iteration managing thousands of international tourists, it remains an absolute triumph of brand experience.

The most critical takeaway for your 2026 trip is to remember the building rebrand. Erase "Daimaru Umeda 13F" from your itinerary notes and replace it with LUCUA SOUTH 13F. By understanding this crucial address update, mastering the morning seiriken queue at the South Gate Plaza, and taking advantage of the neighboring Capcom Store & Cafe Umeda on the very same floor, you are guaranteed to have a flawless, unforgettable adventure.

Pack light, bring your passport, check the official X account before you leave your hotel, and get ready to experience the ultimate Nintendo shopping destination in western Japan.
